1. Exercise more

Lots of studies on this. Exercising releases good mood endorphins so that you are always in a good mood after exercising or walking to the supermarket. I have never met a person in a bad mood after exercise! But where is the scientific proof?


The University of Toronto has done a great job on this and analyzed at least 25 research studies. [1] The bottom line is that physical activity can stave off depression.


The best study I know of is that three groups of depressed people are placed on an anti-depressant regimen, exercise, or a combination of both. It was no surprise to learn that all three groups were happy, but did it continue? Six months later, the group treated with exercise had a lower recovery rate of only 9%. The other two groups split up and how! Their rates range from 38% to 31%, so one-third of them are now depressed again.


2. Positive thinking affects your performance

Local authorities should be able to provide facilities in towns and cities so that people can experience more fun and enjoyable activities instead of building more shopping malls.


5. Write down why you are grateful

Thinking and thinking about things you are grateful for when you wake up is a great way to create more joy.


In researching our brain we always focus on the negative things in life like worries, tragedies, failures and dissatisfaction. The bottom part is the default position.

When we are sleep deprived, this action begins to crumble and the negative thoughts become much greater than before.


To illustrate this, the researchers asked sleep deprived students to memorize a list of words. They score high on all negative words (81%), but when it comes to positive or neutral words, they only get 31% of them. Dr. Robert Stickgold conducted similar experiments on sleep and memory.
